The fund created in Germany refused to support Nord Stream 2

Established in 2021 in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with the participation of Nord Stream 2 AG, the Climate and Environmental Protection MV fund is withdrawing support from the Nord Stream 2 (NS-2) project after the certification of the gas pipeline operator was stopped. This was announced on February 23 by the chairman of the board of the organization, Erwin Zellering.

“The board of the foundation was unanimous in the opinion that we should take into account this development of events (suspension of certification. – Ed.) and, as a foundation, we will no longer be associated with the task that the land parliament then entrusted to us and firmly stated in the charter, namely, that we , despite the US sanctions, we want to contribute to the completion of the pipeline, ”DPA quoted him as saying.

Earlier, on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the LPR and DPR. Against this background, the West again started talking about anti-Russian sanctions, including those related to SP-2.

So, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the German Ministry of Economy had received an order to stop the certification of SP-2. He stated that it is impossible to put the gas pipeline into operation without certification.

Prior to this, on January 7, the regional parliament of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Germany approved the establishment of an environmental fund to support the construction of the gas pipeline. It was noted that the goal of the fund called “Climate and Environmental Protection MV” is to circumvent US sanctions against the project.

In December 2020, the German media wrote that the fund would allow the gas pipeline to be classified as “one of the most important components for protecting the environment.” It is assumed that the project participants will interact with each other through this structure, and not directly, which in theory will protect them from Washington’s restrictions.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the end point of the gas pipeline.

The construction of SP-2 was completed on September 10, 2021. It was built from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea for the purpose of direct gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The Baltic States, Poland, the United States and Ukraine are opposed.
