Checking in on BER is now faster. New scanners on the security controls help with this, in which liquids and laptops can remain in the suitcase.

New scanners at the capital airport BER have been ensuring faster handling times for the passengers for a long time – around 80 percent of security controls have now been converted accordingly. Four of the new security streets in the northern part of Terminal 1 have now been solemnly put into operation. In total there are 24. At other German airports, such as in Frankfurt, the scanners are now available.

With the so-called CT scanners, passengers can leave liquids and electronic devices in their luggage and no longer have to cumainly produce the objects, as the airport announced. In addition, it can also be overtaken on the safety roads. Those who have little luggage can classify themselves in front of those who still have to sort their suitcases on the tape.

Terminal 2 has been converted since the beginning of 2024

All safety traces in Terminal 2 have been converted accordingly since the beginning of 2024. In the main terminal T1 this is now the case in the south and north pavilion. The central area in the main hall is still missing, said airport leader Aletta von Massenbach. Here the infrastructure is more complex. The conversion is expected to take place there in winter 2026/2027. In total, the renovation has cost around eleven million euros in Terminal 1 alone.
