The children of Silvio Berlusconi are likely to hold 60 percent of ProSiebenSat.1. Which plans they pursue and what this means for the European TV landscape.
The Berlusconi family stands in front of the majority at the German television group ProSiebenSat.1. The Czech financial investor PPF wants to sell its share of almost 15.7 percent of the ProSiebenSat.1 shares to the Berlusconi Society Media for Europe (MFE), as he announced on Wednesday evening. After MFE had already reported a participation of 43.6 percent after the first period of offer, her participation with PPF’s shares should grow to almost 60 percent.
PPF had also made the ProSiebenSat.1 shareholders a takeover offer, but, in contrast to the Berlusconi group, no longer increased. With the expiry of the first deadline, MFE had missed the desired majority of shares in ProSiebenSat.1. However, shareholders such as PPP can still be used by September 1st. PPF now wants to handle his remaining financial instruments from his own takeover project.
Media for Europe belongs to the children of the former Italian head of government Silvio Berlusconi, who died in 2023. The group wants to build a European broadcaster group. There are no hurdles for the business under antitrust law. The takeover was already submitted for the exam in 2023 of the European Commission and 2024 of the Federal Competition Authority. At that time, the Berlusconis had exceeded the 25 percent limit.
