The chair of the current boss of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell. US Finance Minister Bessent will soon find possible successors.
US President Donald Trump wants to present several candidates for the successor to the chief post of the US Federal Reserve. He wanted to record the talks in the coming week, he said in an interview with the US broadcaster Fox Business – then three or four candidates are to be presented to the President.
The new chairman of the Federal Reserve (FED) should be someone “who is familiar with monetary policy and regulatory policy and knows how to lead an extensive institution like the FED,” said Bessen.
Trump has been pounding interest cuts for months, but does not get it from the central bank. Therefore, he has asked for the discharge of the current FED leader Jerome Powell several times. It is unclear whether the president may fire the Fed boss. Powell’s regular term ends in May 2026.
