Green politician warns of returning the energy transition

A monitoring of the new Minister of Economics and Energy Reiche is eagerly awaited as the status of the energy transition. There is a lot of criticism even before the publication.

The Green Energy politician Michael Kellner warns the Federal Government of the energy transition. Kellner said that there should be no lowering of the goals when expanding renewable energies. There is already great uncertainty in the industry.

The background is a monitoring commissioned by Economic and Energy Minister Katherina Reich (CDU) at an institute on the status of the energy transition- i.e. the gradual farewell to fossil energies. The results are expected at the end of August. Ministry circles had said that it was about the expected electricity requirements in the coming years as well as the state of security, network expansion and the expansion of renewable energies.

Kellner sees rich under pressure to act

Kellner continued: “The decisions are stacked in the Ministry of Economic Affairs.” It called the planned industrial flow price, so -called climate protection contracts, the reform of the heating law and the power plant strategy – the federal government is planning state funding for the construction of new gas power plants as “backups” for the fluctuating power supply from wind and solar power. “The pressure to act is getting bigger, but little happens,” said the energy politician. “The ministry must now make decisions.”

Minister wants change of course

Reiche had already made it clear that she would seek a change of course. The dpa had told the costs as a whole. “In recent years, the political goal was solely fixed on the extension. However, the energy transition will only be successful if we consistently bring together the expansion of renewable and cost efficiency.” Reiche also made it clear that it considered forecasts of the former traffic light government to be power consumption by 2030 and 2035.

Environmental associations such as German environmental aid accuse rich to slow down the further expansion of renewable energies based on the results of the monitoring. Statements by the minister had provided broad criticism, new small solar systems no longer need state funding.

Rich predecessor Robert Habeck (Greens) had pushed the expansion of the green electricity primarily from wind and sun with various measures. Renewable energies should play a key role so that climate goals can be achieved. However, the expansion of the power grids does not keep up: due to the lack of networks, renewable systems must be throttled again and again. Compensation measures against network passes cost a lot of money.
