Stellantis shines on debut

It’s a successful premiere for Opel’s mother Stellantis: In the first annual balance sheet, the car giant reported a profit of 13.4 billion euros yesterday, Wednesday. Sales were 152 billion euros: That is an increase of 14 percent compared to the combined figures of PSA and Fiat-Chrysler from 2020. Stellantis was formed in January 2021 from the merger of the two groups.

“Today’s numbers demonstrate that Stellantis is well positioned to deliver strong results even in the most challenging market environments,” said the CEO Carlos Tavares. It was possible to increase sales, although around 1.6 million fewer vehicles were built than planned due to the lack of chips.

As a result, production was temporarily suspended in some plants, including at Opel in Eisenach. The adjusted return on sales was 11.8 percent.

According to the company’s own information, synergy effects of EUR 3.2 billion were achieved as a result of the merger. The group, based in the Netherlands, owns 14 brands, including Citroën, Dodge, Alfa Romeo and Jeep.
