The Federal Employment Agency has published the latest figures on the unemployed in Germany. It is as high in August as it was last more than ten years ago.
The number of unemployed in Germany has increased in August for the first time since February 2015 via the three million mark. She climbed by 46,000 to 3.025 million, as the Federal Employment Agency (BA) announced on Friday in Nuremberg. The unemployment rate rose by 0.1 points to 6.4 percent.
“What we expected occurred in August: Due to the summer break, unemployment rose to over three million,” said BA boss Andrea Nahles. The labor market is still shaped by the economic lull in recent years. “However, there are also initial signs of stabilization,” emphasized Nahles.
Adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, the number of unemployed in August was 9000 lower than in July 2025. Analysts had expected an increase of 10,000. Compared to the same month last year, the number of people without a job rose by 153,000 in August.
