The purchasing power in Germany has increased again. The real wages increased particularly clearly for low -wage earners. The pre-corona level has not yet been reached.
As the statisticians further announced, the fifth of the full -time forces with the lowest merits from April to June recorded an increase of 6.5 percent.
For the upper fifth with the highest merits, the increase was 2.5 percent. Overall, the merits of full -time workers increased by 4.3 percent.
According to the statistics office, only 0.6 percent increased for the minor employees. On the other hand, the nominal wages of trainees grew 5.5 percent above average.
Expert: Purchase power of wages beforehand “significantly dropped”
The minimum loan expert from the Economic and Social Science Institute (WSI) of the Hans Böckler Foundation Malte Lübcker described the development as “good news for employees and for the economy in Germany, which is currently particularly dependent on internal demand”.
However, he referred to the high inflation through which the purchasing power of wages had previously “decreased”. “In the second quarter of 2025, wages were still below the level of the second quarter of 2019,” said Lübcker.
