A court denies the US president of imposing far-reaching tariffs, citing an emergency law. The government sees itself in the right and continues to pursue its plans.
Despite the damper, the US government is driving its trade negotiations with other countries through a court decision. The US trade representative Jamieson Greer said on the TV station Fox News: “Our trading partners continue to work very closely with us during the negotiations.”
On Friday (local time), the Court of Appeal Donald Trump had agreed to impose extensive tariffs from many countries, citing an emergency law. He defends himself against it. The decision of the Court of Appeal does not come into force before October 14, so that the US government still has time to contest it before the country’s highest court – the Supreme Court.
It is unclear what exactly the decision of the Court of Court would mean for the trade agreement between the United States and the EU. Since August 7, most of the EU products for import into the United States have been concerned with 15 percent tariffs.
