The largest credit institutions are transferring offices to electricity from renewable sources. Sberbank and Raiffeisenbank have already introduced such branches: the former has connected 27 facilities to alternative energy sources, and will double their number this year. They plan to use electricity from wind, water and solar panels, said Stanislav Kuznetsov, deputy chairman of the board of Sberbank.
Raiffeisenbank recently converted two large offices in Moscow to wind power. This is more expensive, but the additional costs will not exceed 2% per year of the previous amount and will reduce the carbon footprint, said Renat Lotfullin, head of the administrative and economic department of Raiffeisenbank. Pilot projects for the transfer of departments to “green” energy in 2022 will be carried out in the MKB and the Crimean RNKB. VTB is still considering the supply of low-carbon electricity.
The Central Bank supported the transition of banks to renewable energy sources and does not expect that this will affect the rise in price of products or the increase in rates. The use of green energy will also allow companies to position themselves as organizations with a low carbon footprint and receive high ESG ratings, which will make them more attractive to foreign investors, said Yana Epifanova, Vice President of the Association of Banks of Russia.
