Former Chancellor Kern leaves the board of directors of the Russian state railway

He told the “Standard” on Thursday (online) after Russia attacked Ukraine. The ex-politician had previously said that his work was not political or lobbying, but that of an industry expert. Kern has already informed the RZD of his immediate withdrawal from the board of directors, because the RZD has become part of war logistics.

Video: Putin’s stays in Austria – for example for skiing or as a wedding guest of ex-Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl (FPÖ) – caused a stir. Many former ex-politicians worked for Russian companies after their careers.

“In the morning hours today, I informed the bodies of the Joint Stock Company Russian Railways RZD that I was resigning my mandate on the Board of Directors with immediate effect,” Kern said, according to “Standard”. “As of last night, RZD has actually become part of war logistics. I deeply regret that.”

According to the newspaper, Kern, who started working at RZD when he was still head of the Social Democrats, emphasized that he had fulfilled the supervisory board task out of interest in the content. But in view of the current events, there is unfortunately no alternative to this decision. “My thoughts are with the victims of this senseless aggression,” Kern said.
