From the subway to the plane: the Germans are open to autonomous vehicles-but not everyone believes in the breakthrough.
More than one in the other can imagine using a self -driving car privately. A total of 57 percent of the respondents were open to this in a representative survey by the Digitalverband Bitkom. Even compared to other autonomous means of transport, many Germans are not averse, as can be seen from the results.
More than two thirds of the Germans would increase in autonomous subway or S-ores (72 percent) or buses (70 percent). With a regional or long train, 44 percent can imagine. Even with an autonomous plane, around a quarter (27 percent) of those surveyed would fly. “German skepticism is often accused of skepticism, and there is no question of this in autonomous means of transport,” said Bitkom President Ralf Wintergerst about the results.
However, almost half of the respondents are skeptical when it comes to the question of whether autonomous driving belongs to the future. 43 percent of those surveyed consider the technology to be an overestimated hype that does not last in the long run. In contrast, more than half (53 percent) sees the future standard. “Autonomous driving is no longer a utopia. In addition to developments in the USA, China or Singapore, numerous pilot projects also impressively show the potential of this technology in Germany,” Wintergerst estimated the future development.
