Many craft businesses are looking for new employees for a long time. This has consequences for employment.
Open spots in the craft remain for a long time than in other industries. This emerges from an evaluation of the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg at the vacancy time of positions – i.e. the duration from the earliest possible occupation time to deregistering an open position among employment agencies and job centers. According to this, the vacancy time in the craft of 104 days in 2015 rose to 224 days in 2024. In all reports reported, this increased from 84 to 160 days.
According to the Federal Agency, the occupation problems lead to falling employment in the craft. Employment subject to social security contributions has been increasing in Germany for years: from 30.7 million in June 2015 to around 34.8 million in June 2024 – an increase of 13 percent. In contrast, the number of employees subject to social security contributions decreased by 3 percent from 3.5 million to 3.4 million in the same period.
