The rail network in Germany is ailing. With around 40 general renovations, at least the most important routes should be made fit again – but the train continues to soften its plans.
Deutsche Bahn will not comply with a central promise in the so -called general renovations of its most important routes in some cases. Most recently, the railway promised that after such a construction measure with a total of total closure, it will not be built again for five years. According to information from the German Press Agency, the railway is already considering numerous construction sites that will break this promise.
According to DPA information, one reason for this is the lead and safety technology. If not yet happened, the routes will be equipped with electronic signal boxes in the event of a general renovation. Actually, commissioning should take place at the end of the construction period. For some routes, however, the railway has now registered possible construction sites in order to carry out the commissioning only a few months later.
Train refers to “regular maintenance work”
A later commissioning of the electronic signal boxes should lead to around a week with new restrictions for travelers – if everything works afterwards. The railway must inform the industry about such blueprints, even if it ultimately opts for another solution.
According to DPA information, some construction measures were also registered that could lead to significantly longer closures. On request, it was said by Deutsche Bahn that regular maintenance work had to be carried out as well as continuous care and the pruning of the vegetation along the routes. “At the same time, blocking breaks are possible in order to implement new and expansion projects that adjoin a general renovated section of the route as planned,” said a railway spokesman.
General renovations by 2036 on around 40 routes
The concept of general renovation is increasingly crumbling there. There was originally speech of eight to ten years of construction, which was then shortened to five years. When the concept was presented, every construction work should take about half a year – this plan could not be met either. For example, the train needs nine months for the Hamburg-Berlin route. Instead of the current status of 2036, as originally planned in 2031.
With the general renovations, the railway wants to modernize around 40 particularly important routes. The rail network is dilapidated and a main reason for the many delays in long -distance transport, the general renovations should be the liberation for the train.
