At Lufthansa, the Pilot Union Association Cockpit is preparing new strikes. Now the members are asked if they want to go along.
At Lufthansa, the next strike could be in the house. The Pilot Union Association Cockpit (VC) has started a vote this Friday, as a spokeswoman confirms. By September 30th, the employees of the Lufthansa core company organized by VC and the freight daughter Lufthansa Cargo can vote on a possible industrial action. According to the spokeswoman, a quorum of 70 percent of all voters applies to get strikes on the way. Containment or non-participation are considered no votes.
No industrial action measures are planned until the end of the end of the end. It initially remained open whether the union would call a strike date immediately after counting. In the past, the VC has more often gave the opposite side the opportunity to present a new offer. So far, Lufthansa has not commented on details, but according to its own statements relies on a negotiation solution.
Verbled employer contribution
The matter is about company pensions and transitional supply claims of around 4,800 pilots. The union demands significantly higher contributions from the employer to the pension fund. According to a sample calculation in the specialist portal “aero.de”, the employer contribution should be more than triple.
Until 2017, the group guaranteed the absolute amount of the pension payments in order to then change the system in agreement with the VC. For the pilots, only the amount of the employer contribution to the fund is guaranteed. Since then, the risk of low interest rates and thus significantly smaller pension payments have been wearing employees. According to VC, the return expectations at that time did not meet.
