Vlippy from DHDL: The door and window stopper in the test

Door and window stopper in one: This is how Vlippy cuts off in the practical test

Seated windows and trapped children’s hands should belong to the past thanks to Vlippy. The star has tested the new type of door and window stopper from DHDL.

The idea is not new, after all, there are stoppers in abundance. However, all products that are available on the market are only suitable for windows or doors – and not for both variants. That should change with Vlippy: The door and window stopper with clamping protection has a 90-degree mechanism in both directions and can therefore be attached to the right and left, horizontally and vertically. But this is not the only advantage: the noticeable rest points should ensure stable positioning – only by sticking out, without drilling. And thanks to the flexible TPU finger and a fiber-fiber-reinforced carrier plate, the founder couple from Hamburg guarantees maximum durability and stability. So far to the theory, but does Vlippy also work so well in practice? The star found it out.

Vlippy’s history of origin

Most good ideas arise from necessity – it was also at Vlippy: “Our children quickly learned how painfully trapped fingers are,” recalls Bianca Fürstenberg back. And her husband Malte adds: “We wanted a solution that you once installed and then worked reliably – without slipping, without stumbling blocks.” Since the pair of inventors had often developed practical innovations in the past (including a self-fitting and vibration-safe screw nut and a mobile and inflatable tree protection for construction sites), it did not need much starting until their new-like door and window stopper could go into the production and thus on sale. The founders of are so convinced of your product that you even started at “The Lion’s Den”. Is there a happy ending?

The door and window stopper in the test

As already mentioned in the beginning, Vlippy is installed on the window or door frame using adhesive tape. And that’s how it works:

  1. First of all, the surface should be cleaned with the enclosed cleaning cloth so that the glue stays better with it.
  2. The stopper is then attached to the frame when closed – at a distance of five millimeters parallel to the window (or to the door).
  3. After the protective film has been removed from the adhesive tape, Vlippy can be placed in the desired point.

Good to know: Nevertheless, there is the possibility of drilling Vlippy medium two lowering screws (not included in the scope of delivery) – for example on substrates made of wood, on which the glue is not as good as on plastic.

Speaking of material: The movable “finger” is made of thermoplastic polyurethane and must be opened by 90 degrees after installation to activate it. According to the manufacturer, VLIPPY with a medium window size (approx. 100 cm x 100 cm) holds wind speeds of up to ten kilometers per hour – this corresponds to a light breeze. In other words, the stopper is not suitable for stormy days, but that was also not the intention of the founders. “Vlippy emerged from a real everyday problem and, from the desire to create something permanent, simple and effective”. More precisely, it is about preventing windows and doors from closing. There are two different ways to use the stopper here:

  • It is assembled in horizontal to ventilate.
  • It is complained vertically as a stop and clamp protection.

Vlippy in the practical test

We come to the actual test: In the household of our tester, two cats live, which get over the balcony door to the secure roof terrace. For this reason, Vlippy was assembled horizontally under the window – as described in the instructions – to find out whether the door would remain open (if not for ventilation, but for the pets). To increase the drafts, the opposite window was opened, which means that the balcony door normally strikes immediately – which it did not do thanks to Vlippy. In fact, the little “finger” prevented the usual bang.

Conclusion: This is how Vlippy cuts off

As promised by the manufacturer, Vlippy fulfills its purpose. Material looks very stable and is extremely stretchy – nevertheless an overload can occur, for example if the wind is too strong. In this case, the movable “finger” would slip from the screw, which is also wanted. This is the only way to remain undamaged. Especially since the screw can be fastened again. And also /optically the door and window stopper scores with its simple and subtle design.

There is some criticism anyway: First, the glue is so strong that it is only possible with a lot of effort to remove Vlippy. The adhesive strip then has to be disposed of and replaced by a new (in the scope of delivery). In other words, if you accidentally assemble the stopper incorrectly, you have a problem. In addition, Vlippy is only suitable for ventilation, but not for windows or balcony doors when tilted. They can strike too.

In terms of price, Vlippy has nothing to complain: Currently a set with two stoppers and replacement tape costs . If you consider how durable the gadget is, the investment can be worthwhile. Especially when you ventilate regularly and have small children or pets. So the conclusion is: we are satisfied.

Can Bianca and Malte Fürstenberg also convince the critical jury of their innovative product? The founder couple is ready to submit 20 percent of their company shares – for a financial injection of 25,000 euros. You can see what the lions think of the deal this evening at 8:15 p.m. on Vox.
