Label such as “Made in Germany” or “Made in China” can be found on products such as clothing, electronics and cars. Germany has a good image worldwide. However, there are others in some areas.
According to a study, products with the “Made in Germany” seal “Made in Germany” enjoy the top international reputation. The label is most likely to be regarded by consumers worldwide as trustworthy, even before the corresponding seal of Switzerland, according to a survey by the Nuremberg Institute for Market Declarations (NIM). Accordingly, 66 percent of the “Made in Germany”, just before Switzerland and Japan.
The German origin of origin is also the most common for the purchase decision. In the survey, this indicated 65 percent, followed by the Swiss label (62) and Japan (59).
For the analysis, 20,000 people from ten countries were asked in March in March: France, Poland Germany, Italy and Great Britain as well as the USA, Japan, Mexico, South Africa and India.
Germany scores with cars, France at luxury
The “Made in Germany” origin was introduced in Great Britain at the end of the 19th century to protect the domestic economy from supposedly inferior imports from Germany. Today the label is considered a seal of approval. This also shows in the survey: “Made in Germany” is most often associated with quality, according to the Nuremberg researchers.
The opposite applies to China. “Made in China” cut off poorly when it comes to trust and the question of the purchase decision. However, the label is most perceived by far. “Made in USA” follows, Germany is in fourth place here.
According to the study, consumers worldwide combine “Made in Germany” the most combustion cars, followed by household appliances. Other labels such as “Made in France” are therefore associated with a larger number of products, such as cosmetics, clothing, food and wine. The “Made in USA” seal, on the other hand, is by far positively connected to artificial intelligence (AI).
The researchers warn: Germany has a good image, but “Made in USA” or “Made in Japan” cut off more in the case of future-oriented products such as AI, e-cars or electronics.
Good image, but exports under pressure
The survey shows that Germany enjoys high reputation internationally as an exporting nation. At the same time, Germany’s exporters of the Bundesbank have lost competitiveness on the world market.
The German economy depends heavily on foreign trade. Almost every fourth workplace depends on the export, which is under pressure due to the high US tariffs and has shrunk in 2024.
