Timetable change to the train – which changes for travelers

On December 14th, the railway adjusts its timetable. Routes with high demand are strengthened – trips left elsewhere are left out. There is also a premiere to celebrate.
From mid -December, Deutsche Bahn will rely on more and faster train traffic between the big cities, while there are some connections in the area. Among other things, the ICE Sprinter network will be expanded: in the future there will be such a connection between Berlin and Stuttgart, as the railway announced.
Between Hamburg and Frankfurt as well as between Munich and Berlin, more sprinters should ride in the future. The sprinters are popular with passengers because they have few holds on the go and therefore promise shorter travel times.
In view of the economic framework, the DB can no longer offer some weakly requested connections with high cost increases, the group said. This includes the connection between Leipzig and Nuremberg via Jena. There, the number of daily long -distance trips per direction is reduced from five to two. Sometimes only ten percent of the seats were occupied on this route, it said. In Lübeck and Berchtesgaden will no longer keep a long -distance train from the timetable change.
DB focuses on routes with high demand
“Where there are already many passengers on the road, we offer even more train journeys in the new timetable. We are expanding our timetable with a view to demand and capacity on the rail network,” said Michael Peterson, which is responsible for long-distance transport. The overall offer volume remains constant.
The focus on the high -hour -hour tables is also evident: According to the train, the route network, on which a high -speed train will run every half hour, will be increased from 900 to 2,300 kilometers.
Standardization is intended to stabilize system
On the most important ICE lines, the train will standardize start and destination stations, intermediate stops and scheduled plants. “Also, all journeys of the lines should be carried out with the same ICE series,” said the group. The aim is to make the system less complex and subsequently more reliable. The basic principle corresponds to that of S-Bahn systems.
However, this also means that some long direct connections, such as Hamburg-Hannover-Kassel-Wien, the long-distance traffic connection of Lübeck and direct connections in Kiel.
For example, trips to Vienna are handled by the Dortmund-Wien route. If you want to drive from Hamburg to the Austrian capital, you will have to change change in the future.
Another example is Kiel: The state capital loses some unsystematic individual connections and receives a systematically two -hour clock offer towards Hanover, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
Minister has loosened punctuality goals
In view of the current delay problems of the railways, this is not just good news for travelers. Because this increases the risk, for example on the long way from Hamburg to Vienna when switching when switching.
Finally, the ICE and IC trains reached just under 60 percent of their holds on time, i.e. with a maximum of 5:59 minutes late. The prospects for improvement are not great. Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) only loosened the punctuality goal for the train on Monday because he considers the previous one to be unrealistic. By the end of 2029, at least 70 percent of long -distance traffic stops are to be reached on time.
Large construction sites also lead to restrictions in 2026
Many trains will also be slowed down by the dilapidated infrastructure and many construction sites on the Internet in the coming year. The concept of the so -called general renovations alone will exist in 2026 five large construction sites on the net, in which the routes are completely blocked for months:
Hamburg-Berlin to the 30th Aprilhagen-Wuppertal-Köln from the beginning of February to mid-Julinürnberg-Regensburg also from early February to mid-Julybertraubling-Passau from mid-December to mid-December Troisdorf-Wiesbaden from mid-July to mid-December
With the general renovations, around 40 particularly important and highly stressed routes are to be fundamentally modernized by 2036. The train then hopes for significantly fewer disturbances on the routes and thus more reliable operation.
Further innovations in the timetable at an overview
The new ICE L starts. The first missions of the vehicle from the Spanish manufacturer Talgo are planned between Berlin and Cologne. The special thing about the train is its entry that does not require stairs. Although the train bears the name ICE, it is not on the road at the highest speed: the ICE L is not allowed to drive through the country at a maximum of 300, but only with up to 230 kilometers per hour. The railway takes up 40 new or extended cross -border trips. Antwerp in Belgium and Brig in Switzerland are completely newly connected to the DB network. The new Eurocity line between Leipzig and Krakow takes the traffic between Germany and Poland. In addition to tickets for long-distance trains from the Austrian Federal Railways and Swiss Federal Railways, customers can now also book many internal French TGV connections as well as tickets with the EuroTar directly on Bahn.de or in the DB Navigator. Specifically, travelers can purchase tickets from Frankfurt to London or from Paris to Marseille with the TGV. The night trains of the ÖBB leading by Germany are now also available via the sales channels of the DB.
The new timetable will be driven from December 14th. Booking start is on October 15th.
