At the beginning of the year, consumers had to pay a record price for butter. Now the price is falling again.
Butter gets cheaper again. Supermarket chains and discounters reduce the price for a 250-gram package of German brand butter of their own brands by 30 cents to 1.49 euros, as a survey by the German Press Agency showed. Other butter products should also become cheaper.
The discounter Lidl reduced prices as the first thing. Rewe, Edeka, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd, Kaufland, Penny and Netto then followed up as usual. The retail chains had already reduced prices last week. The demand for packed butter then increased significantly, as the Agricultural Market Information Society in Bonn reports. A large milk volume and a high fat content lead to falling prices.
There have been large price fluctuations in butter in recent years. In the summer of 2023, customers paid 1.39 euros in most shops for the cheapest package in most shops. In October 2024, the price rose to 2.39 euros. Butter was more expensive than ever. Prices have been falling again since February.
