VW paints layers – weak demand

Due to weak demand, VW is reducing production in several locations. There are even special shifts elsewhere. What is behind the measures?

VW is reducing production for weak demand: In Zwickau and Dresden, production will be suspended for a week from October 6th, confirmed Europe’s largest carmaker at the request of the German Press Agency. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported about it.

According to the report, the report also threatens to negotiate with the works council. The decision could be made next week, writes the “FAZ”. Production cuts in Osnabrück have already been decided: at least one closing day will be filed every week by the end of the year, confirmed VW. There is also a week break in October.

“Volkswagen adapts the production program in its works to the current customer issue of the models built there,” said a group spokesman in Wolfsburg. “In some works, this will lead to shift statements in the coming weeks.” The main reason is the weak demand for electric cars built in Zwickau and Emden. Osnabrück suffers from weak sales of the convertibles built there.

Special shifts in Wolfsburg

In contrast, there are further shifts in the Wolfsburg main plant, the spokesman added. There will be special missions on almost all weekends by Christmas. The reason is the high demand for the golf, Tiguan and Tayron, built there.

Unlike in the pure e-car factories Emden and Zwickau, only combustion models are built in Wolfsburg that are currently in demand. There have been special layers here since May. “The demand for Tiguan, Tayron and Golf is currently very good,” said brand manager Thomas Schäfer at the company meeting at the beginning of the month. “To master this, we drive additional layers in Wolfsburg.”
