Money in seconds, security checks for transfers and that from the Windows 10 support. October brings some innovations – and an hour more sleep. An overview.
Conversion to winter time
Again and again annoying, but at least this time there is an hour for free: on October 26, winter time begins: Then the clocks will be put on to 2 a.m. at 3 a.m. Incidentally, it is officially called normal time because the watches are presented in summer.
Comprehensive real -time transfers
It took it: if you transfer money within the euro area, you can do so in real time at all banks from October 9th-and at all times. According to the corresponding EU regulation, all banks have had to be able to receive such real-time transfers since the beginning of the year. You must also not be more expensive than others.
More security for transfers
Practical: In order to protect consumers from fraudulent or incorrect transfers, banks will in future have to check in the event of transfers in the euro area before approval whether the recipient name and the entered IBAN will match the data of the target account. The payer is informed about the result of the check within seconds and can decide on this basis whether he transfers the money or not. The banks must implement corresponding EU requirements from October 9th.
Windows 10 support ends
Windows 10 is the most popular PC operating system in the world, in Germany alone there is still more than 30 million computers. But on October 14th, Microsoft will retire. This means that there will no longer be free updates for Windows 10 with which newly discovered weaknesses are ironed out. With the end of support, users then risk the victim of undiscovered and non-resolved security gaps if they do not do anything beforehand.
If you don’t want to do without the operating system, you have to pay Microsoft well: The group offers private users and commercial users for another year so-called extended security updates (ESU) for $ 30 (around 27 euros).
New electronic entry system
Stamped: The EU wants to start its new electronic border system on October 12th. The current system of the passport stamp is to be replaced. Arrivals and out of non-EU citizens should be extensively grasped digitally. This means that biometric data such as fingerprints and face pictures have to be provided. A transition phase of six months is planned for the introduction.
Electronic patient file mandatory for doctors
From October, doctors are obliged to use the electronic patient files (EPA) and to take new diagnoses and findings in the e-file. The EPA should make it easier to exchange document between different medical practices or with pharmacies.
Hedge cuts allowed again in October
Garden owners are allowed to cut or remove hedges, bushes and other trees radically from October 1st. Then the closing time has ended since the beginning of March, which serves to protect nesting birds and other animals.
