Number of unemployed decreases again below three million
Germany counts less unemployed. In September, their number usually drops for several reasons. But compared to the previous year, the number has increased.
The number of unemployed in Germany fell in September compared to August thanks to a slight autumn revitalization by 70,000 to 2955 million. That is 148,000 unemployed more than a year ago, as the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg announced. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 points to 6.3 percent in September. Compared to the same month last year, the quota is 0.3 points higher. For the September statistics, figures were used that was available until the 11th of the month.
“Unemployment and underemployment decrease in September alone. The labor market continues to lack the necessary impulses for a stronger revival,” said the CEO of the Federal Employment Agency (BA), Andrea Nahles. The autumn revitalization of the labor market has so far been weak.
Unemployment usually drops slightly in September. Among other things, the summer break ends, which leads to less employment in some industries. In addition, many young people compete in this period of the year and thus fall from statistics.
Number of short workers increases compared to the previous year
The demand from the companies for workers continued to decrease in September. In September, 630,000 free jobs were registered with the Federal Agency, 66,000 less than a year ago.
The short -time work remained largely stable. According to current data, economic short -time work was reported from September 1st to September 24th for 36,000 people. Current data on actual use are available until July 2025. This month, according to preliminary minor data for 199,000 employees, the economic benefit was paid. That was 4,000 less than in the previous month, but 5,000 more than in July of the previous year.
