Germany’s largest airport in Frankfurt is about to open. After ten years of construction, the authorities decreased the new building, including a sensitive thing.
At Frankfurt Airport, the third passenger terminal is no longer a construction site. The new building has successfully completed the acceptance by the authorities, the operator Fraport announced. This also includes fire protection, which had caused major problems and delays, for example, at Berlin Airport.
The approximately four billion euro project in the south of the airport is thus going into the final phase after ten years of construction. Until commissioning, there are still some work to be done, such as the expansion of the shops and snacks. Technical systems such as the luggage production facility are also constantly being tested, as a spokesman for the company said.
Tests with thousands of extras
In the coming year, Fraport plans to test passenger operation between January and April with the help of thousands of extras. About 8,000 people should play through the processes against an allowance: from arrival with the new Sky line or car, check-in and security controls to boarding.
The exact opening date of the terminal with an annual capacity of initially 19 million passengers has not yet been determined, but it will be announced in the coming week. After preliminary planning, it will probably be after the Hessian Easter holidays in mid -April. The school starts again on April 13th.
