Ukraine war: Refugees from Ukraine can travel by train for free

How can you help people who have to flee? Deutsche Bahn has a good idea.

Deutsche Bahn makes it easier for people from Ukraine to flee to Germany. “Deutsche Bahn enables refugees with a Ukrainian passport or identity card to use all long-distance trains from Poland to Germany free of charge,” the group said on Sunday.

The regulation applies immediately. “This is intended to make it easier for refugees to continue their journey from the border.” The railway is in close contact with authorities and partner railways in Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria.

Together with the Polish Railway, the railway is preparing any additional capacities that may be necessary. Additional cars and special trains could be used for this, it said.

According to the information, up to six long-distance trains from Poland to Germany run regularly every day, all via the Frankfurt/Oder border crossing. Long-distance trains come from Warsaw, Gdańsk, Przemysl on the Ukrainian border, Kraków, Vienna and Wroclaw.
