The Ministry of Transport will hold a second meeting with airlines after the imposition of EU sanctions

On Monday, February 28, the Ministry of Transport will hold a meeting with airlines, a source in the Federal Air Transport Agency told Izvestia.

“Tomorrow morning a meeting will be held at the Ministry of Transport. Among other things, as expected, the issue of interaction with foreign lessors will also be discussed,” he said.

The Ministry of Transport did not promptly comment on the information. The request was sent to the press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

This will be the second meeting at the Ministry of Transport since the announcement by the European Union on Saturday night of a ban on the supply and leasing of aircraft and spare parts for Russian airlines. EU authorities have also banned insurance and maintenance of this equipment. According to EU regulations, companies have been given a delay until March 28 to complete existing leasing and other accompanying contracts with Russian airlines.

The first meeting took place at the Ministry of Transport on the morning of Saturday, February 26. According to Izvestia’s sources in a number of airlines, no decisions were made on it.

In Russia, most of the fleet consists of aircraft manufactured by Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Bombardier. According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, this is about 750 aircraft (in total, about 980 airliners are operated on commercial airlines). The largest private airline in the country, S7 Airlines, Aeroflot, which will soon transfer all Superjet aircraft from its fleet to its subsidiary Rossiya, will fly only on foreign ships, and will also fly only on Airbus and Boeing models. Only foreign equipment is operated by Ural Airlines, Utair, Pobeda, Nordwind, Azur Air and many other carriers.
