“You should trust older people more and give them a chance. I know that we old people are no longer physically so resilient, but we are (I) still fully there, and that should also be recognized in addition to our experience.” These are the words of a person from Upper Austria affected by long -term unemployment. Long -term unemployed are people who have been without employment for more than a year. 9780 of them there was September in Upper Austria, so more than every fourth unemployed in this group is attributable. Their number was reduced in 2022, when full employment in Upper Austria was practically fully occupied. In the currently economically difficult times, they find a job much more difficult or are often the first to leave a company with risk factors.
“Old age, low education and health restrictions are the three main risk factors for longer unemployment,” says Thomas Lankmayr from the Institute for Vocational and Adult Education Research, which has created a survey. 7326 those affected were contacted, the response rate was ten percent. 68 percent were actively looking for work. At 58 percent, a large part is also confident of finding a suitable job again. “The confidence decreases with increasing age and increasing duration of unemployment,” says Lankmayr. 77 percent had applied to at least one company in the past six months, 69 percent have received at least one answer.
