The US Disney Group is a good customer of the Papenburg Meyer Werft. The youngest cruise ship is scheduled to begin service in a few weeks.
Meyer Werft from Papenburg delivered its newest cruise ship, the “Disney Destiny”, two weeks earlier than originally planned. The ocean voyage was carried out in September over a distance of a good 40 kilometers on the Ems to the North Sea.
The “Disney Destiny” is the third ship of the so-called Wish class that Meyer Werft built for the Disney Group. The ship has around 1,250 cabins and, according to the shipyard, can accommodate around 4,000 passengers. Like her sister ships “Disney Wish” and “Disney Treasure”, the “Disney Destiny” is equipped with liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion, which is intended to reduce emissions compared to traditional propulsion systems.
Meyer Werft built two cruise ships for Disney in 2010 and 2011. Last year, the severely ailing shipyard received four more orders from the US entertainment group, which are to be delivered between 2027 and 2031. The “Disney Destiny” is expected to set off on its first voyage in November.
