More and more people seem to be looking for a way to reduce their working hours. Constant pressure, endless meetings – the abundance of tasks leads to chronic stress. Many people want to slow down their lives in order to improve their mental and physical well-being. They want more free time to pursue their interests, spend more time with family or just relax.
On the other hand, there are also people for whom work is not “earning a living”, but also self-realization. They see the increased work hours as an opportunity to improve their skills and pursue passions. Three of these people have their say here.
“Above all else is always the pursuit of excellence”
Noam Zur
Noam Zur is a conductor who lives in the Ruhr area, but is primarily active internationally. His motivation for extra work: He wants to be excellent in his work.
I came into a family of musicians and learned to play the trombone and piano as a child. As a teenager, I once impulsively stood at the conductor’s podium during an orchestra rehearsal and simply tried it out. That worked surprisingly well and the other orchestra members came to me afterwards and said I should expand on it. When I came home that day, I said to my father, “I’m going to be a conductor.” At first he wasn’t exactly enthusiastic, but my parents still supported me a lot.
