With only two exchange wheels before the legislative elections, the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputostated this Thursday that there will not be a jump in the dollar after the elections. “Nothing happens on Monday”he stated in television statements. He stated that whatever the outcome, “absolutely nothing changes, economic policy remains the same.”
“As long as the dollar is within the band, let the market choose the price it wants”said the official, who stressed that “the dollar within the band floats” and that they only intervene if the exchange rate ““it goes to some extremes”.
Emphasizing his defense of the current system, he considered that the banding scheme “is perfectly calibrated.” In this sense, he added: “Is it (the dollar) going to go above the band ceiling? No, I assure you not.”
Luis Caputo dollarization
“We will never have a majority in both chambers in this election to pass the reforms that we want to pass,” acknowledged the Minister of Economy.
“The historic opportunity”
At another point in his interview with LN+, Caputo stated that the country is “facing a historic opportunity”, in reference to US aid: “The most important country in the world is telling you ‘I want the Argentines to do well. If they continue this path, we are going to do whatever is necessary for the Argentines to do well.'”
The economy minister noted that Donald Trump’s government “wants the world to see that this is the right model”. He assured that from the US “come that the model is absolutely accurate”. And he went deeper: “They say ‘Argentina does not have a solvency problem, it has a financial problem, specific, because it still does not have access to the markets.'”
Asked if North American support will be maintained in the face of an adverse result in the elections, Caputo acknowledged: ““The US supports our policies, but the result is very important.”
The importance of elections
In fact, he stated that ““These midterm elections are more important than those of 2027.”. For this reason, he stated that “he who is not a communist, he who is not going to vote for Kirchnerism, it is very important that his vote goes to La Libertad Avanza”in a veiled mention of the United Provinces.
He then made an even clearer reference: “The negotiation with the governors is going to have to be in any casebecause we We will never have a majority in both chambers in this election to pass the reforms that we want to pass“.
And he added that “Hopefully in 2027 there will be an alternative governor, Peronist, or whatever, rational.”
