The Russian attack on Ukraine has also raised concerns about energy supplies in Germany. The federal government is now ensuring a strong gas reserve.
In response to gas problems in the winter and the Russian attack on Ukraine, the federal government bought gas for 1.5 billion euros as a reserve for the near future.
Government circles confirmed a corresponding report by the news portal “The Pioneer” on Tuesday evening.
The portal referred to a letter from the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, Florian Toncar (FDP). The Ministry of Finance gave the go-ahead for a corresponding application from the Ministry of Economics. The Budget Committee of the Bundestag was not consulted as is usual in comparable cases.
The first delivery should therefore already take place on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Finance. The payments for the gas would have to be made “very promptly”.
