The step had been in the room for a long time, now Apple is getting serious: the US group is no longer selling any products in Russia for the time being.
Apple has suspended sales of its products in Russia because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
The US company announced that exports to all of the group’s trade channels in the country had already been stopped last week. The Apple Pay payment service and other services have also been restricted. The apps of the Russian state broadcasters RT and Sputnik are no longer available in all app stores for Apple devices outside of Russia.
In Apple’s map service in Ukraine, the display of traffic and current accident reports have been switched off to protect the country’s citizens. Google is also hiding this information in its maps app in Ukraine given the fighting and the advance of Russian troops.
“We are deeply concerned by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and stand with all those who are suffering as a result of the violence,” Apple said. It continues to assess the situation and is in discussions with relevant governments on the steps Apple is taking.
