Sales grew 32% in February during the season in Mar del Plata

The level of sales left 76.5% of the merchants satisfied, while 23.5% considered that the sales were regular or bad.

As seen in the survey, February had an excellent performance this year and closed on average above the growth in sales recorded during the extra-long carnival weekend, which was 30% compared to the same period last year.

44.1% of those surveyed say their February profits were good, while 8.85% said they were not and 47.1% said their profits were average.

The president of the Union of Commerce, Industry and Production of Mar del Plata, Blas Taladrid, expressed in a statement that “even with the negative effect of the unexpected power outage in the city that affected sales on the main day of the weekend of the week, the carnivals left a positive balance for the merchants of Mar del Plata”.

In that sense, he specified that “the best-selling products were those related to outerwear or the beginning of the school year, this to the detriment of the ‘star’ products of December and January, such as those related to the beach: bathing suits , lounge chairs, sunscreens, sunglasses, among others”.

February had a more familiar audience than January, a month in which young people predominated, whose spending was more oriented towards services than the purchase of goods, and a crucial point was the downward trend in Covid 19 cases, generating more tranquility in the visiting public.

The sample was carried out in stores in the Open Air Shopping Centers of Güemes, Playa Grande, Juan B Justo, Tejedor, Constitución, Microcentro and Sierra de los Padres, and the main items surveyed were sporting goods and recreation; bazaar and gifts; jewelry and accessories; footwear and leather goods; clothing and lingerie; jewelry and watches; toy stores; perfumeries and cosmetics; white textile and bedding; furniture, among others.
