“Sepyme is supporting exports to all destinations with different instruments to accompany and strengthen those MSMEs that have never exported and to consolidate and boost those that do so regularly. Southeast Asia is a region of the world with great potential and dynamism “, assured the secretary of SMEs, Guillermo Merediz.

The official maintained that “The goal is to enhance all the productive, design and innovation capacity of national businesswomen and entrepreneurs in order to expand markets and export volumes.” Regarding the number of MSMEs that sold to said region, in 2021, there were 479 that made direct exports, which meant an increase of 11.6% compared to the 429 that did so in 2020.

According to the Secretariat, these levels of participation of these companies as direct exporters have not been registered since 2014, when exporting MSMEs reached 482, which indicates that the number of these exporting companies is recovering in these destination countries. Of the total number of MSMEs that made shipments last year, 108 were micro-enterprises (23% of the total), 172 were small companies (29%) and 199 were medium-sized firms (48%).

Primary products of agricultural origin, food and animals, and products of animal origin topped the list of exports to Southeast Asia, with 73%. Meanwhile, exports in 2021 were 17% manufactures of agricultural origin (MOA), followed by manufactures of industrial origin (MOI) with 7% and fuels and energy with 3%.

The companies located in the province and in the city of Buenos Aires are the ones that sold the most to this destination, representing 34% and 16%, respectively, of the total exported. The participation of firms from the provinces of Mendoza, Santa Fe and Córdoba was also important.

Exports of micro, small and medium-sized companies at a general level totaled US$10.8 billion, reaching the highest level in 6 years in 2021 and a year-on-year increase of 15%.

In this way, shipments to Southeast Asia meant, in particular, 3.6% of the total exported by MSMEs in 2021. In this region, Vietnam stands out as the main market, which represented 1% of total exports, followed by by Indonesia (0.9%).
