meat increased almost 4% in February

With the rise of 3.7% in February, beef accumulates an increase of 59.2% year-on-year. Although this number is estimated based on data from the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), it is a figure that is taken as a reference at the national level. In addition, according to the CICCRA, the price of chicken grew by 3.6% in the second month of 2022. Much further behind is the breast of pork, which increased by only 0.5% per month.

It should be clarified that these values have a more pronounced impact on butcher shops, so, according to estimates, for consumers meat and chicken would have increases of close to 6% and pork 2.5%.

Regarding exports, the numbers at the beginning of the year were awaited with some anxiety after the Government released the sale abroad of most of the cuts and limited national exclusivity to only seven of them, with the aim of avoiding a transfer of international prices to local gondolas.

The data published by the Chamber also indicates that during January 2022 the sale abroad was 36,700 tons, which implies a year-on-year drop of 24.6%, which is explained by the fact that China – the main buyer – lowered its imports by 25, 8% during this period. However, economic revenue grew by 3.2% year-on-year.
