Car manufacturers need special infrastructure along certain field test routes for the development of autonomous vehicles that can navigate the road safely. The company Digitrans already operates such a test track on the A1 and the A7 in the greater Linz area, which is to be expanded soon.
In advance, the company started a cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Upper Austria. Students of the Master’s degree in “Digital Transport and Logistics Management” at the Steyr campus evaluated how this route can be marketed. “This year we managed to get our students to participate in the design of a real future project in the field of automated driving,” says Wolfgang Schildorfer, in whose “Entrepreneurship” course part of the project work took place.
To develop business models, the students analyzed potential customers who could use the extended test track. To do this, they developed various possible customer types, e.g. B. Sensor or car manufacturers. In order to get a better impression of the needs of these potential customers, they created a requirement profile with representatives from the respective industries.
“Finding added value for everyone”
It was very challenging to familiarize yourself with the topic of autonomous vehicles, says Christina Zach, who studied digital transport and logistics management and worked on the project. “We had to acquire complex knowledge in a very short time and also analyze the economic and legal situation,” says Zach.
However, she really enjoyed putting herself in the position of the various stakeholders. “It was very exciting to work on such a complex topic from different perspectives and to find added value for everyone involved,” says the student.
