Netto, Rewe, Penny and Aldi have already announced that they no longer want to offer Russian goods in their range. Two more supermarket chains are now joining.
Lidl and Kaufland are phasing out the sale of Russian products for the time being.
Overall, only a few products that are produced in Russia are available in the German branches, the Schwarz Group in Neckarsulm (Heilbronn district) said at the request of the German Press Agency. “These are currently not being reordered. Goods that are already on sale will not be destroyed and the remaining stocks will be sold off until further notice.»
A spokesman for the Schwarz Group went on to say that they offer a wide national and international range that is constantly being developed to meet the expectations of consumers. “We are not represented in Ukraine or in Russia with our own locations.”
Other grocers had previously taken similar steps. Rewe, for example, had already announced on March 1st that it would be delisting articles produced in Russia in all Rewe and Penny stores. The discount chain Netto, which is mainly represented in northern and eastern Germany, had also announced a boycott of Russian goods. Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord had taken schnapps from Russia off their shelves – the discounters didn’t have any other items from Russia on offer anyway. Edeka says it hasn’t had any active, central business relationships with Russia for a long time.
