The Government keeps the export registry of soy derivatives closed

As reported Ambit This Monday, the tariff differential that exists for those who export industrialized products using soybeans as raw material would be removed. Until last Friday, beans paid 33% export duties and industrialized beans 31%. That difference of 2% that “rewarded” the added value carried out by the industrialists is what would be removed and would go on to increase the treasury’s collection.

Meanwhile, amid strong criticism from the opposition and from the entire productive sector, various government officials ruled out the possibility of implementing increases in withholdings on grain exports.

On the one hand, the presidential spokeswoman, Gabriela Cerruti, said that “a number of measures are being studied,” after which she clarified that “none of these measures is the increase in the withholding of the production of corn, soybeans or wheat ”.

Who also dismissed a rise in withholdings on grains was the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán. During his presentation before a plenary session of Senate commissions to analyze the agreement with the IMF, he specified that “an increase in export duties on grains, wheat, corn, sunflower, soybeans and other grains” and clarified that “they will seek “to have instruments to avoid having a destabilizing effect on the cost of the food basket of millions of Argentines and Argentines” as a result of the impact of the war between Ukraine and Russia on prices of commodities.

Precisely, that would be the main destination of the funds collected with the 2% tariff differential, since in recent days there has been an acceleration of inflation in the basic basket that worries the government.

As for the productive sector, all the leaders of the rural unions maintain constant communication since they not only rejected the announced measure but also received strong pressure from groups of producers who do not have representation but who already propose demonstrations on the routes and call for to assemblies. Some of them could be held next Thursday in Santa Fe.

Although the measure designed by the Government directly targets a small group of exporting industries, producers could also be affected by the measure because they ensure that every time there is a change in withholdings, everything comes out of the same pocket. The proof is in what happened yesterday -the first after the closing of the export records for flour and soybean oil- where values around 465 dollars were traded, below the 485 of the last Friday.

The next few hours will be essential to define the measures that will govern from now on for the export of grains and derivatives. The meetings in the ruling party’s staff, such as the one that took place yesterday between President Alberto Fernández and Minister Julián Domínguez, will continue for the rest of the day and once the measure is published in the Official Gazette, the registry will reopen. of exports.
