Among the main points negotiated, the renewal for 3 years – from March 19, 2022 to March 18, 2025 – of the quota for the reciprocal import of light vehicles with a 0% tariff was highlighted.
Likewise, it was established that the contingent amount will be the one currently in force for a value of US$773,125,578, and that it will remain fixed throughout the period.
Further, Mexico grants Argentina “an exclusive quota with a 0% tariff and without prior import permission, for 50,000 tons of beans during 2022, 2023 and 2024, including flexible terms, meeting the request of Argentine exporters,” it was detailed.
Both countries also agreed to negotiate, during the three years of validity of these concessions, a comprehensive review of Appendix I of the Economic Complementation Agreement 55 (ACE 55), in order to “address pending issues and strengthen the balanced development of the automotive industries” .
At the same time, over the next three years, the nations committed to expanding and deepening ACE 6, focusing initially on the trade of goods and later on other disciplines, such as Services or Government Procurement.
Regarding ACE 6, Argentina maintains a great interest in the incorporation or deepening of preferences for wines, dairy products, poultry meat, garlic, vegetables, fresh fruits and preparations, peanuts, chocolates, sunflower oil, steel and chemical products, among others.
“The achievement achieved is part of the deepening of the Strategic Association between Argentina and Mexico agreed by presidents Alberto Fernández and Manuel López Obrador, in the Declaration of Presidents signed in February 2021,” concluded the Foreign Ministry.
Also present on the occasion were the Argentine ambassador to Mexico, Charles Takenand the Undersecretary of Mercosur and International Economic Negotiations, Rossana Surballe.
