In order to make Germany less dependent on Russian oil, consumption must be reduced. Every second citizen is in favor of car-free Sundays.
According to a survey, almost half of the citizens in Germany are in favor of car-free Sundays in view of the oil dependency on Russia.
When asked whether car-free Sundays should be introduced to reduce the need for Russian oil imports, 48 percent of respondents said yes. This was the result of a survey by the Civey Institute published by the news channel Welt on Friday. 45 percent of the 5072 respondents were against, 7 percent were undecided.
The majority (52 percent) of 5001 respondents did not consider a tank subsidy to relieve the high fuel prices to be sensible. 39 percent of the survey participants were in favor of it, 9 percent were undecided. Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner had proposed relief for consumers at the beginning of the week because of the high fuel prices.
