Agreement with companies and supermarkets to roll back prices of 580 products to March 10

The products that will roll back their prices correspond to the items food, cleaning and personal hygiene, among others.

Through a statement, the official agency stated that “the large supermarket chains throughout the country promised to roll back, as of tomorrow, the prices that Internal Trade had detected with excessive increases based on the surveys that the Secretariat does daily. , both in person and based on the Argentine Electronic Price Advertising System (SEPA)”.

The largest increases that alerted the Secretariat and the Ministry of Productive Development and led to joint action by both agencies, were registered between Wednesday 16 and Friday 18 Marchspecified the agency led by Roberto Feletti.

The chains that showed the highest levels of increase were Walmart/Changomas and the Cencosud group, owner of the firms Jumbo, Vea and Disco.

Yesterday, at a press conference, the Minister of Productive DevelopmentMatias Kulfaswho has the Ministry of Internal Trade under his control, anticipated that today he was going to “clarify what the responsibility of the industry and intermediaries is”, at the same time that he remarked that “the prices that have been adopted in an unjustified manner” they were going to have to go back to the agreed date today.

On the other hand, and as a result of the meetings, the Secretariat observed that some companies, such as the most serene and River Plate Mills“they are prioritizing the supply to local businesses over supermarkets, thus attacking the program +Prices Carewhich works in the big chains all over the country”.

At the discretion of the official agency, this scheme implemented by these companies operates “against the establishment of a regulated basket, which acts as an anti-inflationary anchor, guaranteeing Argentines access to a wide and diverse number of mass consumer goods.”

“The same behavior was seen last week by the exporting refrigerators grouped in the ABC Consortium, who tried to boycott the program Cuts Carewhich led to an injunction from Internal Trade and the subsequent action of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries to guarantee its operation,” said Internal Trade.

For this reason, these companies will be summoned in the coming days so that they “give explanations about their actions and, if warranted, the corresponding sanctions will be applied.”

“Based on the meetings held between yesterday and today, Internal Trade raised the need to work in coordination with supermarkets and production companies, making it clear that, in the event of any breach, the necessary fines and sanctions will be implemented, either within the framework of the Supply Law or other corresponding regulations,” the statement concluded.
