“The acceleration of prices in recent weeks is worrying but not only in Food and Beverages but also in Clothing and footwear, Transportation, Housing and Education. In other words, inflation is the general rise in all goods and services in the economy and the variation that is taking place is an increase from its previous level. Containing this process without a concrete stabilization plan in the medium term will not achieve the desired results,” said Damián Di Pace, director of Focus Market.

Di Pace pointed out that “the large supermarket chains would be the ones who should supervise this action of returning prices to March 10 when they place the order with their supplier. As the companies have genuine arguments for rising prices of inputs, raw materials and services, the program will have many complexities to become effective. As has happened on other occasions, if sustained over time, the price level will be adjusted by the amount of product delivered at the point of sale.”

“We are having an inflationary problem that exceeds the warlike conflict in Russia and Ukraine. The diagnosis of the acceleration of current inflation should start from the recognition of inflation of fiscal and monetary origin, to which today the correction of the relative prices of the economy, among which we must detail: electricity, water and gas public service rates, correction of the official exchange rate, increase in fuels, increase in cargo transportation, among others,” he concluded.
