On Tuesday, Guzmán had agreed with the president of the Paris Club, Emmanuel Moulin, to postpone the deadline to pay the debt of nearly US$2 billion.
The steps to follow will be the following, informed the Treasury: Argentina will conclude the refinancing with the IMF (for which only the approval of the agency’s board remains) and then plans to close the process of renegotiating the liabilities with the institution based in France.
After the meeting, the Executive Branch assured that Moulin expressed his support for the program of extended facilities reached with the IMF and congratulated the negotiating authorities.
Guzmán highlighted on his twitter account that the understanding reached “allows us to continue improving the sustainability of the external debt”, and remarked that “it helps to shore up the recovery of production and employment”.
The official thanked Moulin, and the countries that make it up for the support to the economic stabilization process that we are carrying out to build a horizon with more predictability and an Argentina with more equal opportunities”.
It is worth remembering that Argentina has already paid close to US$420 million of the US$2.4 billion that were due to be paid to the Paris Club on July 31, 2021.
