War in Ukraine: Telekom stops software development in Russia

Deutsche Telekom has around 2,000 employees in Russia. Quite a few are already working abroad following an offer from the group. The work is shifted to other locations.

Because of the Ukraine war, Deutsche Telekom is withdrawing from Russia. The company announced on Thursday in Bonn that its activities in the country would be discontinued.

Telekom has a large software development site in Saint Petersburg and two smaller branches in other Russian cities with a total of around 2,000 employees who provide services for customers outside Russia. According to Telekom, it has no business relationships with companies in the country.

The employees there were offered the opportunity to continue working outside of Russia. “Many employees took advantage of this opportunity and left the country.” The work previously done in Saint Petersburg will be relocated to other locations in other states. It has been ensured “that we can maintain the services for our international customers in the best possible way without the location in Russia,” the statement said. Deutsche Telekom has around 217,000 employees worldwide.
