When six students go full throttle at KTM

As part of a project, they examined the evaluation of production data and tracking methods.

Since the need for resource-efficient work and the traceability of batches and individual components is constantly growing, companies are faced with growing demands. It was the task of the six bachelor’s students to fulfill this at least in part.

Where is what?

During production, KTM collects data and information about the processes carried out and product properties. However, these must also be evaluated and made available for further processing. This is where the bachelor students came into play. The aim was to present KTM with a suitable methodology for tracking materials. For this purpose, the students dealt specifically with the frame construction of the individual vehicles, in which changing environmental influences such as fluctuating temperatures or different machining processes affect the workpiece.

And the technicians succeeded. In the future, with the evaluation overview created, it should be possible to quickly and easily get an overview of the current status of the component labeling in the company. With just a few clicks, it becomes clear in which production step a material part is currently located. And the acid test by the motorcycle and sports car manufacturer KTM was also passed: the system and product solutions presented by the Steyr students can be integrated into the company after internal analyses. “Both students and the economy can benefit from the cooperation,” the FH stated.
