In the midst of tension with food, the Government summons businessmen

At the meeting, Béliz will announce financing for US$23 million for educational, connectivity and employment projects. However, the main course will be the Minister of Productive Development, Matias Kulfaswhich will announce the axes for the Argentina Productiva 2030 plan. It will consist of the implementation of sectoral roundtables, under the logic of “mission-oriented policies”, based on a concept by the Italian-American economist, Mariana Mazzucato. They will seek to continue growing industrial activity, but with a more exporterwith innovation, competitiveness and greater integration of local inputs.

The announcement of an industrial plan that will last almost a decade comes at a time when the Government decides to close the debt chapter. First was the restructuring with private parties in 2020, last Friday the IMF board approved the extended facility program, and the Paris Club agreed to postpone the “time bridge” to renegotiate the outstanding debt.

Tension with businessmen

As reported by the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs, Tuesday’s productive agenda will focus on three goals: deepen the recovery of the productive fabric, generate employment and inclusion and “strengthen consensus, plurality and social friendship”. In fact, the motto used is “Argentina United by beloved Argentina.”

However, the call comes in a context of tension with some sectors of the private sector. On the food side, the tension escalated with the Secretary of Commerce, after Roberto Feletti spread the increases of up to 30% that were carried out in three days. However, the chamber that groups food companies (Copal) denies the increases. “There is no such supposed remark”assured Daniel Funes de Rioja, head of Copal and the UIA, in dialogue with Futurock radio.

After Feletti mentioned the companies that increased by an average of 14% in three days, Funes de Rioja assured that there could be “one-off” situations involving the rise of commodities. “If there was a situation, it will have to be seen, the sector will be able to say what the problem is, but by no means in a general way but rather exceptionally. There is also the issue of marketing chains, I do not distribute blame or responsibility, but I respond to the position of the Secretariat that says it is speculation, be careful because things may not be like that”.

Although from this Monday the companies should roll back the prices, Funes de Rioja asked for dialogue: “It is not good to impute without having listened,” he said. Regarding Feletti’s threat to apply the supply law, he considered it “legally questionable.” In any case, he assured that “we must lower the tone.”

At the moment, the tension with the Liaison Table is maintained due to the rise in withholdings of 2 points on soy derivatives. The entities seek to back down through Congress. However, there are sectors of the agricultural leadership that press for a “tractor” from the interior and to the City.

Meanwhile, the Government is pending the call to unions and businessmen to set expectations regarding joint negotiations. In principle, this week there will be a dinner at Quinta de Olivos with Alberto Fernández, the Minister of Economy, Martín Guzmán, and businessmen who usually talk with the Casa Rosada to talk about the hottest topic: food prices, which in March would once again be above 7%, according to private estimates.
