The planned sale of the shipyard on the North Sea had recently faltered. But the decision of the Cartel Office has now provided some relief.
The Federal Cartel Office has approved the takeover of Bremerhaven’s Lloyd Werft by the Rönner-Zech Group. A spokesman for the cartel office confirmed the decision.
The insolvency application was then withdrawn at the beginning of the week at the Bremerhaven district court, said the spokesman for the insolvency administrator. So nothing stands in the way of the takeover. The new owners are the Bremen building contractor Kurt Zech and the Bremerhaven steel and shipbuilding contractor Thorsten Rönner.
In the wake of the MV shipyards on the Baltic Sea, the traditional Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven also filed for bankruptcy in January. Both companies belonged to the Hong Kong conglomerate Genting. Its cruise division was in trouble because of the pandemic. The shipyard in Bremerhaven has around 230 employees.
Shipyard have “gained new impetus”
“I am pleased that we have managed to secure the future of the traditional Lloyd Werft in a strong team effort while maintaining all 230 jobs with the existing conditions,” said Christoph Morgen, who represents the previous shareholders of Lloyd Werft.
Managing Director Carsten Sippel emphasized: “The Lloyd shipyard now has a secure economic basis again. The market for ship repairs in Northern Europe is very good and demand for docking capacity is high. The fact that we were able to dock the cruise ship Aida Aura today shows that we have gained new momentum since the beginning of the year.” They now want to work intensively on the orders and bring further ship projects to Bremerhaven.
