Entrepreneurs ask for a campaign to save household gas

On the one hand, in the next few hours they will be sending a note to the Secretary of Energy in which its head, Darío Martínez, will be asked to order a state of emergency until December 31so that through interventions it is avoided that the internal price of the fluid is fully affected by the rise in international values.

According to information from the company Ieasa (the former Enarsa), last year 56 ships were imported for a total of US$1,096 million, with an average price of US$8.33 per million BTU. This year the value reaches US$25, and 13 more ships will need to be imported, based on the greater activity that the economy is showing. The question about the tender is whether there will be dollars to pay for the increased costs.

“We are not asking that the price of gas not rise. We just say that we cannot incorporate a 200% price increase”, Daniel Rosato, head of IPA, explained to Ámbito. Rosato pointed out that in the price per unit of a product made by the SME industry, the value of energy impacts between 7% and 30%. “We would have to raise prices by 50%,” he explained.

Beyond the request to extend an emergency until the end of the year to prevent the situation with prices from getting out of control, the businessmen consider that the government should start some kind of campaign to make the population aware of the need to save.

“To the SME Commission of the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) we suggest that a campaign should be launched to encourage savings in household consumption”, Rosato explained. The businessman indicated that the proposal includes that the regulatory body analyze the possibility of applying some type of penalty for households that consume more gas than last year.

Industrialists are concerned about the situation ahead of winter. In the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) they understand that the rationing of consumption is going to be inevitable and that, therefore, what lies ahead is to take measures so that the situation affects production as little as possible.

The manufacturing plant set up an Energy Table to work on proposals that will elevate it to the government. Basically, it is a production scheduling scheme at the plants based on the availability of gas in the coming months. Entrepreneurs will show a potential vacation scheme or plant shutdowns and in relation to this, the gas will be distributed.

The government, meanwhile, ensures that this year the supply will be normal since it maintains the idea that it will be possible to import Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) by ship according to this year’s needs.

About, Marcelo Fernández, head of the General Business Confederation of the Argentine Republic (CGERA) assured that “From the State we still do not have information”. The businessman said that “we still don’t know what we have to stick to this winter”.
