The business entity also detailed that among the main provinces that bring together metallurgical activity “different levels of activity were registered” in the first two months of 2022.
In this sense, Santa Fe (+5.1%) and Córdoba (+2.8%) registered increases in their production levels, although they slowed down in part the growth that they had been registering in the last year.
Meanwhile, the province of Buenos Aires registered a year-on-year fall of 1.4%, as a result of a 4.2% decrease in January and an increase of 3.5% during February, although it remains above the levels of end of 2019.
At the sectoral level, a high degree of heterogeneity was recorded in the main items that comprise the metallurgical activity: improvements were led by Bodyworks, trailers and semi-trailers (10.8%), Foundry (6.1%) and Capital goods ( 4.3%).
On the other hand, the Auto parts (-2.8%) and Agricultural machinery (-0.9%) sectors moved downwards, with negative year-on-year variations, mainly driven by the fall in January.
It is worth noting that the metallurgical industry and the automotive sector were two of the sectors that drove growth and industrial employment during 2021. Employment in the metallurgical industry increased by 3.5% during 2021 while automakers added 2,294 workers to their plants between 2020 and 2021.
In this sense, the studies carried out by ADIMRA foresee a growth for metallurgy in 2022 of between 7% in the most optimistic scenario, and 2% in the most skeptical.
