Medical cannabis production can generate 10,000 jobs

Faced with the potential of this activity, Kulfas stressed the importance of the Chamber of Deputies converting into law the “regulatory framework for the development of the medical cannabis and industrial hemp industry.”

“For the benefit of La Rioja and all of Argentina, it is a priority that the regulations are clear, without ambiguities, that they promote investment in the sector and the development of quality products with high added value,” the official remarked.

The head of Agrogenetica Riojana, Benjamin Enriquemaintained that “all these approaches make La Rioja have a unique, organized project” and they believe that “it is an industry that will give regional economies and small producers the opportunity to join this value chain.”

Kulfas was accompanied by his peers from Science, Technology and Innovation, Daniel Filmusand Health, carlain addition to the governor of Rioja, Ricardo Quintela.

It is worth noting that La Rioja has 16 industrial projects waiting for the bill that regulates the activity to be approved. In this sense, Quintela affirmed that “it is a very strong proposal that generates a supreme interest” and that is why they ask for the “rapid de-bureaucratization to be able to fulfill all the objectives.”

During the visit, Filmus, for his part, announced a program from his portfolio on cannabis research in Argentina for $250 million to “deepen genetic characterization and technology transfer.”

“The fact that the three ministries are here means that we are not only supporting research and development, but that the presence of Minister Kulfas means the possibility of scaling up production and Minister Vizzotti the possibility of applying it,” he remarked.

It was also reported that The National Seed Institute (Inase) approved an Argentine seed “which will be very important for the development of research, cultivation and the production of medicinal cannabis”Vizzotti announced to the C5N signal.

Inase delivered to Governor Quintela the approval copies of two of the strain varieties, one that will be included in the “supervised” seed regime for its commercialization in Argentina, CAT No. 3 (Argentine Therapeutic Strain) and the other, an adapted national seed from the Spanish bank Eva Seeds.

He also reported that The Ministry of Health has 24 projects in the provinces of La Rioja, San Juan, San Luis, Misiones, Río Negro, Chubut, Jujuy, Corrientes, Buenos Aires, Salta and Córdoba linked to medical cannabis.

“We are working with strategic actors to continue improving access with quality products and the necessary medical support,” added Vizzotti.

For his part, the La Rioja Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Vergara, stated that “from this first half of the year an oil rich in CBD -a chemical substance extracted from the cannabis plant- will be produced with quality and free delivery for those who do not have the possibility of acquiring it, with distribution in all pharmacies in the province, which is going to be a great objective”.

According to official sources, the Ministry of Productive Development contributed to the La Rioja project with a Non-Reimbursable Contribution (ANR) of $14 million pesos from the Soluciona program.

In addition, $78 million were allocated for three technological centers and laboratories linked to cannabis and 10 training sessions were held in municipalities on the production and development of this activity.

$20 million were also awarded for a project of the Knowledge Economy Nodes program, aimed at the development of computer services in the Technological Pole of La Rioja.
