Construction rebounded and grew by 8.6% year-on-year

Construction reached a level 29.9% higher than that of February 2020 (pre-covid–provisional data until the series are published). In the month, sales of 9 of the 13 supplies surveyed grew in year-on-year terms.

Shipments of Asphalt (+51.2% year-on-year), Rest (+47.7% year-on-year; including seamless tubes, glass and taps) and Mosaics (+22.1% year-on-year) led the growth.

The inputs with the greatest falls were Paint (-4.7% interannual), Bricks (-3.0% interannual) and Plasterboard (-1.2% interannual).

Expectations

Regarding expectations about the continuity of the industry, 29.5% of companies dedicated to private construction and 45.3% of companies dedicated to public works believe that activity will increase in the March-May quarter of 2022 (vs. 29.3% and 45.1% respectively in the previous quarter).

Meanwhile, they believe that activity will fall 8.2% of companies dedicated to private construction and 4.0% of companies dedicated to public works (vs. 12.1% and 8.5% respectively in the quarter previous).
